Bringing Presence to Patterns

Happy November!

As I write this, blankets of snow have fallen over the city, casting everything in white, and I remember joking with students about the endless layers we now put on and peel off every time we leave our homes.

All of this reminds me of the patterns or rituals we perform every day, every week, and every year. Some we do without thinking, like taking a few extra moments to put on extra layers on clothing, and others we look forward to all year long, like holiday traditions.

There’s so much that feels out of our control these days. How do your rituals shift and change as we head into Fall and Winter? How can we use these rituals, big and small, to make sense of the world and strengthen our connection to one another?

As we settle into this new season, we’ve got some exciting updates and offerings at the studio to help you stay grounded, connected, and moving through it all.

What's Inspiring Our Team

LeRoy: I’m inspired by the idea of my movement practice as a practice of self-knowing. Through movement, we learn more about who we are by exploring our capabilities, our relationship to discomfort, and by listening closely to our bodies. The more we know and express ourselves, the better equipped we become to meet the challenges in front of us, both on the mat and in our daily lives.

Beth: Lately, I’ve been inspired by teachers who make space for stillness and silence in their classes. I always try to begin and end with a few moments of quiet. In a world where we’re constantly surrounded by noise, information, bright screens, and traffic, it can be powerful to simply sit still and listen. Sometimes silence can feel uncomfortable or even a little scary, but that’s often where the most meaningful self-connection begins.

Mateo: This season, I’m inspired by myself. Not in an ego-driven way, but in the sense of beginning a new chapter, building a new community, and rediscovering my own worth. After walking away from a life I had built and a community I loved, I’m inspired by the resilience it takes to start again.
