Frequently Asked Questions
What is a movement studio?
A space that guides intentional movement of the physical body, and acknowledges the benefit both physically and mentally. Here at Forth, we know the importance of offering a variety of movement modalities to meet you where you are at. We draw inspiration from many cultures and lineages. We also offer workshops periodically to explore longer/deeper/additional movement modalities.
What are the core class types?
Open (Yoga Asana) + Hot Open (Hot Yoga Asana)
Breathe (Breathwork)
Strengthen (Mat-Based Strength Training)
Restore (Stretching + Meditation)
Engage (Mat Pilates) + Hot Engage (Hot Mat Pilates)
Why the odd class names?
Here at Forth we focus less on what the practice is supposed to look like, and instead we care a lot more about how it makes you feel.
What should I bring?
We have more specific details for each class type when booking, but generally speaking:
Clothes you are comfortable moving in. We provide all needed props otherwise!
A refillable water bottle if you want to stay hydrated
No need for sneakers or sticky socks, our classes are offered barefoot
If you are taking a class at 2655 N Milwaukee, you may also want to bring a towel as you’ll get sweaty! We also have hand towels for rent. You can also rent or bring a shower towel if you want to use the shower at 2655 N Milwaukee after class.
Are you on classpass or gympass?
We chose to leave Classpass and Gympass in May of 2025 as it no longer aligned with our mission. Like many things in our world today, Classpass and Gympass are designed for short, transactional, quantifiable experiences summed up with a rating and often rogue review.
Forth is built for the next wave of movement - which prioritizes deeper, local, consistent connections. We support one another as we grow. Our community and programming requires consistency, and is not built for the drop-in model. We’ve built out our modalities to include strength training, mat pilates, yoga, restorative yoga, breathwork, and also hot yoga and hot mat pilates in order to offer a comprehensive program for both body and mind.
What style of yoga do you offer?
We offer vinyasa yoga, which is often similar to power yoga. Expect 10+ vinyasa flows (chaturangas) per 45 minute class to keep the body moving, which peak postures and balance opportunities as well.
Where is forth and how should I get there?
Our non-heated studio is at 2871 N Milwaukee Ave right at the border of Logan Square and Avondale, just north of the Diversey/Kimball/Milwaukee intersection. Our heated studio is at 2655 N Milwaukee Ave right at the Logan Square blue line stop. In addition to walking or biking, we are a quick walk to the CTA Logan Square station and the 56 Milwaukee bus stops right next to the studio! There is also plenty of metered street parking on and around Milwaukee.
Are there any age requirements?
Yes, we require practitioners to be over the age of 18 to join classes.
What are your late cancel / no-show policies?
We respect your time and want to make sure our booking system accurately reflects our availability for our students. Please note that we require cancellations 10 hours in advance, or you will either lose your class credit or if you are an unlimited member, you will incur a $10 fee. If you do not late cancel and do not show up to class, you will lose your class credit or incur a $15 fee if you are an unlimited member. All purchases (including membership plans) are non-refundable, non-transferable, and may only be used by the original purchaser.
What is your commitment to DEI & YOUR COMMUNITY?
We’re so so glad you asked! We know we are as strong as our community is inclusive, equitable, and diverse. We acknowledge that we are on native land, and land that has even more recently been gentrified - displacing communities in the more recent past. In our time since we opened in April 2024, we have provided not only free community classes at Forth but also at local parks, and in collaboration with our friends at LoSAH (a city-funded mental health clinic). We also consulted a DEI advisor our first year of business to create routine trainings for our team, to set the standard for what’s to come. And very importantly, we do not tolerate hate towards another human including but not limited to: racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, bigotry, anti-semitism, Islamophobia, age discrimination, and ableism.
What does your studio smell like?
We use a diffuser with lemongrass and eucalyptus essential oils. While most of our students love our signature scent, please be mindful of this if you are sensitive to smells.
Are your classes beginner friendly?
Yes! All of our teachers are experienced in teaching to anatomy, and can accommodate both beginners and experienced practitioners. That being said if you’re looking for a more physically gentle class, check out our restore class to ease into our studio!
Are your classes hot?
Some are hot!
Our classes in our space at 2871 N Milwaukee Ave are not hot. We set the temperature slightly above room temperature to ensure you are comfortable, without actively heating the room. Depending on the modality, number of movers in class, and time of year, it’ll range from 70-78 degrees.
Our classes in our space at 2655 N Milwaukee Ave are hot! We offer hot yoga at 100° and hot mat pilates at 90°.
